I was recently hired to shot some new PR material for Comstock Saloon, specifically their new bar manager Drew Majoulet. Thinking about it, I was a bit surprised that I had never shot a bartender before, though I've really always wanted to. Needless to say, I was excited to make it happen.
Comstock is a very classy bar and serves some of the finest cocktail in San Francisco. The space was without a doubt beautiful, but it had it challenges. For starters, there were a ton of mirrors that exist in almost every area of the bar.
Additionally, the building had a huge wall of windows. They actually let in a really beautiful quality of light that raked across the bar, but on the day of the shoot it was pretty gloomy and stormy out. The sun coming in wasn't quite powerful enough to use it alone so we I to light, but that also meant I had to carefully work my shooting angle to work around all of the glass and hide the lights and myself form reflections.
We set up simply to amplify what the natural light was already doing and once we got the ratios dialed it was time to get the shots.
After getting some variations, we changed our set up and angle a bit to get a second look. After that, Drew offered me a proper negroni and that was a wrap!
