Makenzie is my housemate, and a wonderful one at that. Last night she had her friend Maddy over for a little dinner party. Over the meal, I told Maddy about my #whenfriendsdropbythestudio portrait project, and she was quite willing to take part and let me shoot some photos of her. After dinner, and a twenty minute interlude for a Sam Cooke dance party, we set up shop in the studio and got to shooting.
Photographing Maddy was great. She was a total natural in front of the camera and we got some incredible portraits (which I'll get to sharing later), but the true magic happened when Makenzie jumped in and the two of them just stared riffing and having a good time.
Maddy and Makenzie grew up together and there is truly a magic that comes through in a friendship that has grown and developed over a lifetime. It was so much fun to get to capture that. These are exactly the kind of moments I hoped to come across when I started this project.
After grabbing a collection of formal portraits and candid moments, we carried on with the dance party deep into the night. A big thanks to our housemate Morgan and neighbor Rachel for helping out holding flags and bounce cards. Even the smallest shoots are a team effort.
Considering it just became February, I cannot wait to see how the rest of the year working at this project will unfold. Thanks for checking in!
